Gran Fondo National Series

Bonk Breaker is proud to announce that we’ll be the official fuel of the Gran Fondo National Series. Gran Fondo means “big ride” in Italian and that’s what this series is all about, some of the best rides in the USA coming together to reward the riders who want to experience the best that road cycling has to offer.

“We’re excited to support the expansion of the Gran Fondo scene to the USA and can’t wait to help riders take on some of the biggest, best, and most beautiful rides the country has to offer,” said Jason Winn, Bonk Breaker Founder & President.

The series contains 10 events in all, and starts in Malibu this March. For those racing, chip timing will record and rank riders over designated sections along course. Friends and competitors can ride together in these mass-start events, and riders can choose to race timed segments or have a more relaxed ride. Unlike traditional road racing, GFNS riders are encouraged to regroup between timed segments to socialize, stop for pictures, and take advantage of aid stations.

Gran Fondo National Series courses are offered in lengths ranging from 30 to over 100 miles, so there’s a challenge for everybody. The overall lowest combined time in each category will determine the winner. Riders who complete three 100-mile events are eligible for the overall Gran Fondo National Championship Series title, which is based on the lowest cumulative placing. Each winner will receive a custom kit and a free entry to one of the prestigious three-day Haute Route events in the US.

At this time of year, when the nights are long and the polar vortexes cold, it can seem a long time until summer. But we find that setting goals is a great way to train and what better goal than a big ride in great terrain? The series is a great way to keep yourself committed throughout the season and compete against riders of a similar level. We’ll be there at the Malibu Gran Fondo on the 15th of March and there’s still time to book your flights if you would like to join us.
